Eligibility/Qualification–
Essential Qualification
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in any of the following disciplines or a closely related field:
- Nanotechnology
- Electronics Engineering
- Materials Science and Engineering
- Semiconductor Technology
- Physics
- Microelectronics
Essential Experience
- Minimum 6 months to 1 year of relevant post-Ph.D. experience in semiconductor fabrication.
- Experience in a cleanroom or research and development environment is preferred.
- Demonstrated hands-on expertise in plasma and dry etching systems, particularly RIE and ICP-RIE.
- Experience in semiconductor process development, equipment qualification, process standardization, and laboratory operations.
Hands-on Skills
Candidates should have practical expertise in:
- Operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of plasma etching systems.
- Dry etching process development and recipe optimization.
- Process qualification and characterization.
- Plasma physics and gas chemistry.
- Etch selectivity, anisotropy, uniformity, and process repeatability.
- Profilometry and film thickness measurements.
- Microscopy and electrical characterization.
- Semiconductor process integration involving lithography, deposition, and etching.
- Equipment qualification, preventive maintenance, calibration, and laboratory documentation.
- Cleanroom operations, laboratory safety, chemical handling, and contamination control.
Desirable Skills
- Process standardization and establishment of baseline etching processes.
- Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Process capability analysis and yield improvement.
- Process troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Project coordination experience.

The selected Project Research Scientist will be responsible for supporting advanced semiconductor and nanoelectronics research under the TaRANG project.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the operation, maintenance, qualification, and optimization of plasma and dry etching systems.
- Develop, standardize, and optimize dry etching processes for semiconductor and MEMS device fabrication.
- Establish baseline etching recipes and ensure process stability, repeatability, and reproducibility.
- Troubleshoot equipment and process-related issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance, calibration, vendor support, and equipment upgrades.
- Maintain SOPs, process documentation, maintenance records, and qualification reports.
- Ensure compliance with cleanroom protocols, laboratory safety requirements, and contamination-control practices.
- Provide technical guidance and training to users operating etching equipment.
- Collaborate with other semiconductor process modules to support integrated fabrication and R&D activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of process performance, equipment reliability, and laboratory operations.
Salary / Pay Details
The position is offered at Pay Level PR-O2.
Salary: ₹42,000 to ₹84,000 per month
Additional Allowance: ₹7,500 Out of Campus Allowance, if applicable.
The institute may offer a different designation or salary level depending upon the candidate’s experience and performance during the selection process.
