University Assistant (Post-Doc): TU Wien, Austria’s largest institution of research and higher education in technology and natural sciences, invites applications for the position of University Assistant (Post-Doc) in Ion-Surface-Interactions. This is a full-time position limited to 6 years, with a weekly workload of 40 hours. The position is available at the Institute of Applied Physics, in the Research Unit of Atomic and Plasma Physics. Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Doctorate in physics, nanotechnology, materials science, or related fields with in-depth knowledge of the subject area.
  • Ability to perform independent research.
  • Experience in national and international research cooperation, project management, and scientific presentations.
  • Knowledge of ion physics, surface physics, nanotechnology, surface chemistry, thin films, nuclear fusion, or related fields.
  • Experience in areas such as ultrahigh vacuum technology, ion sources, charged particle optics, detectors for ions and electrons, signal processing, lasers, surface analytics, simulations, and device control with Python or LabView is a plus.
  • Experience in teaching and interest in research, working with students in small teams in a laboratory setting.
  • Organizational and analytical skills with a structured way of working.
  • Excellent command of the English language, and German language skills are not a requirement, but an effort to learn German is welcome.

Job Description:

  • Conduct independent and goal-oriented research in ion-surface-interactions.
  • Teach or participate in teaching and supervision of students.
  • Develop methods, concepts, and contribute to interdisciplinary scientific projects.
  • Participate in organizational and administrative tasks of the research division and the faculty.
  • Research on an internationally competitive level.
  • Attract third-party funds and establish contacts with industrial research partners.
