The Skin Biology Laboratory, led by Prof. A. Navarini, is seeking a motivated PhD student to contribute to the study of mechanisms underlying chronic skin diseases using an innovative human epidermal organoid model.

Location: Skin Biology Laboratory, Department of Biomedicine, University of Basel, Basel, Switzerland

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Cell/Molecular Biology
  • Strong commitment to research
  • Previous experience in 3D cell culture, molecular biology techniques, and microscopy
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)

Job Description: As a PhD student in the Skin Biology Laboratory, you will be responsible for developing and studying a 3-dimensional human epidermal organoid model to investigate skin pathologies. Key responsibilities include planning, designing, and executing experiments, performing cell isolation from skin biopsies, conducting epidermal organoid and 2D epidermal cell cultures, modifying cultures with genes of interest, testing drug candidates, and characterizing gene defects or responses using techniques such as western blot, immunochemistry, and quantitative RT-PCR.
