PhD Candidate: Plant Protection Program: IRTA is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated PhD candidate to join the Sustainable Plant Protection Program. The selected candidate will conduct research on the project titled “Rhizobiome improvement through the addition of beneficial microorganisms and root exudate metabolites to boost the resilience of grapevine and fruit tree rootstocks against drought and root diseases.” This project aims to manage soilborne fungal diseases in vineyards and orchards while enhancing the diversity and functions of soil/rhizosphere microbiota in the context of climate change.

Scholarship Description: The PhD candidate will engage in innovative research to enhance the resilience of grapevine and fruit tree rootstocks by improving the rhizobiome through beneficial microorganisms and root exudate metabolites. This position offers a full-time contract for four years with a progressive salary and various employee benefits. The research will be conducted under the supervision of Dr. Amaia Nogales García and Dr. Marc Viñas at IRTA’s facilities in Cabrils and Torre Marimon, Barcelona.
Eligibility:
- Must hold a Master’s degree in Agriculture, Microbiology, or a related field, or meet the requirements to access a doctoral program according to Catalan universities.
- Must not have a previous PhD degree.
- Proficiency in English; Catalan and Spanish are valued.
- Desirable: Knowledge in data management, basic knowledge in R (RStudio), and a driving license B.
