Research Fellow (GPCR Signalling and Metabolic Disease): An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Department of Metabolism and Systems Science at the University of Birmingham. This role focuses on exploring the cellular and molecular mechanisms that govern the storage and release of fatty acids in adipocytes related to obesity-related metabolic disorders.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Educational Background:
  • Bachelor and/or Master’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • A PhD (or nearing completion) in a relevant area or equivalent qualifications.
  • Experience & Skills:
  • Expertise in cell signalling, receptor pharmacology, and/or fluorescence microscopy is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate complex information clearly.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques (cloning, transfection, etc.).
  • Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary experimental research and teamwork.

Job Description

The successful applicant will investigate the role of free fatty acid receptors 2 and 4 (FFA2/4) in adipocytes with a focus on their intracellular location and function related to lipid droplets. Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing research objectives and proposals.
  • Conducting cell signalling and advanced microscopy studies.
  • Analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Writing publications and participating in research seminars.
  • Supervising students and contributing to departmental activities.
  • Engaging in grant writing and public engagement activities.
