Postdoc in Engineered Living Materials: The Materials Synthetic Biology group led by Prof. Wilfried Weber is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join the interdisciplinary project within the EIC-funded consortium LoopOfFun. The successful candidate will focus on engineering micro-organisms, specifically filamentous fungi and yeasts, to develop sustainable engineered living materials for various applications.

Research Area

The project will focus on the programming of engineered living materials by manipulating micro-organisms, with an emphasis on sustainability and innovation in material science.

The position is based at the INM – Leibniz Institute for New Materials in Saarbrücken, Germany.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Doctorate (PhD) in natural sciences in microbiology (fungi), biochemistry, biomaterials, or comparable areas.
  • Experience in one or several of the following fields:
  • Handling and genetic engineering of filamentous fungi.
  • Synthetic biology and protein engineering.
  • Synthesis and characterization of living biohybrid materials.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and capability to manage ambitious projects with international partners.
  • Ability to work in a team, flexibility, and self-organization.
