Research Fellow at UCL: The UCL GOS Institute of Child Health is seeking a Research Fellow to join a large, multidisciplinary project under the Severe Presentation of Infectious Disease (SPID) Genomic Network of Excellence. The position is focused on advancing the understanding and management of life-threatening infectious diseases using novel genomic technologies.

Research Area:

The research will focus on the application of metagenomic methods in NHS diagnostic labs to improve pathogen detection and host immunity profiling.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD/DPhil in life sciences (molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, virology, or related area).
  • Experience in NGS wet lab workflows (particularly Nanopore and/or Illumina).
  • Familiarity with molecular biology methods (PCR, qPCR/dPCR, nucleic acid extraction, cloning).
  • Desirable: Experience in hybridization-capture NGS workflows and development of NGS protocols.

Job Description:

The appointee will participate in a significant project aiming to enhance the understanding and management of patients with severe infectious diseases. Duties include:

  • Implementing metagenomic methods in clinical settings.
  • Collaborating with multi-institutional partners.
  • Engaging in the development and optimization of NGS wet lab protocols.
  • Disseminating research findings through suitable channels.
