Eligibility / Qualification

Essential:

  • PhD (or about to obtain within 3 months of employment start) in Microbiology, Pharmacy, Bioinformatics, or related biological/biomedical discipline.
  • Strong research experience in bioinformatics, especially analysis of large genomic datasets with associated metadata.
  • Proven experience in:
    • Whole genome and metagenomic sequencing data analysis.
    • Molecular microbiology (e.g., high-throughput nucleic acid extraction, qPCR).
    • Aseptic techniques, microbial culturing, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, microbial identification, and pathogen handling.
  • A publication record appropriate to career stage.

Desirable:

  • Additional expertise in microbial pathogenesis and infection biology.
  • Experience with collaborative, interdisciplinary projects.

Job Description

  • Conduct bioinformatic analysis of large-scale genomic and metagenomic datasets.
  • Develop, optimize, and implement data analysis pipelines.
  • Interpret sequencing results in the context of microbial infection in kidney transplant patients.
  • Collaborate closely with Dr. Stephen Kelly’s research group.
  • Mentor and support junior researchers and students.
  • Prepare manuscripts and contribute to grant applications.
  • Contribute to research group activities and departmental goals.
