Eligibility/Qualification

  • A completed university degree (Master or equivalent) in:
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Material Science
  • Physics
  • Computational Science
  • Excellent grades in the aforementioned fields
  • Experience in modeling and simulation
  • Strong understanding of computational mechanics and finite element methods
  • Practical experience in at least one programming language (preferably Python)
  • Experience with Unix/Linux operating systems
  • Structured, analytical thinking and reliable working method
  • Interest in collaboration with experimentalists
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills

Job Description

As a PhD student, you will:

  • Develop automated workflows for descriptor-based microstructure reconstruction
  • Identify material parameters for crystal plasticity simulations through inverse analysis
  • Establish and link structure-property relations based on numerical simulations
  • Transform data into AI- and ML-ready information
  • Implement an indirect inverse optimization framework to identify desired microstructures
  • Publish and present research findings at relevant journals and international conferences
