Eligibility/Qualification

  • University degree (Diploma/M.Sc.) in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field with above-average grades.
  • Profound understanding of solid-state physics and thermodynamics.
  • Ideally, experience with semiconductor and insulator materials.

Desirable Competences

  • Experience with Mössbauer methodology, in-situ experiments, nuclear spectroscopy techniques, and electronic system set-up.
  • Familiarity with vacuum systems, cryogenics, and high-power lasers.
  • Proficiency in at least one OOP programming language (e.g., Python, C++) and instrument control languages (e.g., LabView).
  • Knowledge of data visualization and statistical analysis tools (MATLAB, Origin, or Python libraries).
  • Good communication skills and fluency in English.

Job Description

  • Development and installation of an on-line Mössbauer modular chamber for ISOLDE/CERN.
  • Simulations for ion and laser beams, along with development and installation.
  • Programming and automation of test setups, coupled with the development of evaluation software.
  • Conducting measurements at ISOLDE/CERN and participating in joint projects within the ISOLDE collaboration.
  • Evaluation, analysis, and presentation of results, including publications, lectures, reports, and contributions to international conferences.
