Postdoctoral Researcher in Fiber Modeling for Thermal Protection Materials

Location: NASA Ames Research Center

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Must hold a PhD in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Aerospace), Physics, Materials Science, or Geology.
  • Experience in particle-based methods such as molecular dynamics, discrete element methods, or bonded-particle models is required.
  • Knowledge of granular flow, plume-surface interactions, fracture mechanics, and thermomechanical response is a plus.
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident

Job Description:
You will:

  • Develop simulation techniques to examine the influence of micro- and meso-structure on the thermal and mechanical behavior of woven materials in thermal protection systems.
  • Utilize both Lagrangian/particle-based simulations and Eulerian methods to analyze the complex interactions of fibers in woven structures.
  • Engage in experimental validation and verification of proposed techniques.
  • Report to advisor Andrew Santos and have the freedom to pursue innovations in the field.
