The PhD projects are focused on the following topics:

  4. Investigation of heat flow generated by magnetic nanoparticles (JCNS-2)
  5. Interfacial structure of citrate on magnetite (JCNS-3)
  6. Dynamics of water and ligand molecules on nanoparticle surfaces (JCNS-3)

Location

Preferred place of work is at the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ) in Garching, with an option to be based at JCNS institutes in Jülich.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Master’s degree in solid state physics, chemistry, crystallography, material science, or a related subject.
  • Experience with X-ray or neutron scattering methods.
  • Research experience relevant to the chosen project area.
  • Proficiency in scientific programming (e.g., Python, Matlab) is an asset.
  • Strong command of English (at least B2 level CEFR).

Description

The selected candidates will conduct research using high-performance neutron scattering instruments. Full participation in experiments, data analysis, and interpretation is required. The fellowship supports professional development with access to excellent facilities, networking opportunities, and dedicated training for doctoral candidates.
