Research Area

The research will focus on understanding how cortical flow, actomyosin flow, and cytoskeletal dynamics regulate embryonic morphogenesis, particularly in asymmetric cell division and left-right asymmetry.

Location

UBC Vancouver Campus, Vancouver, BC, Canada

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Biophysics, Genetics, Molecular Biology, or a related field (PhD students in their final years are also eligible).
  • Strong background in cell biology, developmental biology, or genetics.
  • Experience with molecular biology, genetics, live imaging, or image analysis.
  • Strong collaborative skills and effective professional communication.
  • Demonstrated writing skills and research productivity.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with C. elegans genetics.
  • Experience with single-cell RNA sequencing or other genomics approaches.
  • Experience with quantitative live imaging and computational image analysis.
  • Interest in mentoring undergraduate or graduate students.
  • A desire to contribute to a diverse and inclusive research environment.

Job Description

The successful candidate will lead projects examining the mechanical regulation of cortical flow and its implications in embryonic morphogenesis. The work will involve C. elegans genetics, live imaging, quantitative image analysis, and molecular perturbation approaches. There will be opportunities for independent project development and mentorship of junior researchers within a collaborative setting.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should send a single PDF application to kenji.sugioka@ubc.ca with the subject “Sugioka Lab postdoc application” and file name “LastName.FirstName.pdf.” The application should include:

  • A 1-page cover letter stating research interests and qualifications.
  • CV with contact information for three references.
  • Copies or links to 1–3 writing samples, such as recent peer-reviewed publications.

Last Date to Apply

Applications will be accepted until June 18, 2026. Applications will continue to be reviewed until a suitable candidate is identified.
