This is a fully-funded PhD studentship at Nottingham Trent University, focusing on the intersection of materials science, engineering, and additive manufacturing to develop next-generation adaptive technology.

PhD Opportunity: 4D-Printed Adaptive Structures, Nottingham Trent Universityn, UK

Project Summary

The 4D Materials and Printing Lab in the Department of Engineering is seeking a PhD student to investigate smart polymer composites, functional surfaces, and adaptive structures. The project explores how material choices, geometry, and environmental conditions enable structures to change shape or properties in response to external stimuli like light, heat, or humidity. The work combines experimental testing with modelling and design to develop reliable design rules for sustainable, low-energy adaptive systems.
