Job Description

As device dimensions continue to shrink, surfaces and buried interfaces increasingly define performance, reliability, and long-term stability. This postdoctoral position offers the opportunity to turn advanced photoemission into a routine, high-impact capability for probing the chemistry and electronic structure that govern tomorrowโ€™s semiconductor technologies.

In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to development: Help mature in-operando XPS and HAXPES capabilities, transforming them into robust, reliable, and accessible workflows.
  • Conduct research: Perform hands-on experimental development, advanced data analysis, and interpret complex spectra.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with process, integration, and device experts to connect photoemission results with complementary characterization methods.
  • Innovate: Identify new opportunities in the scientific literature to position in-operando photoemission as a key capability for semiconductor R&D.

Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Education: PhD in Materials Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent research experience).
  • Technical Skills: Strong hands-on experience with photoemission techniques such as XPS and HAXPES.
  • Assets: Knowledge of electrical characterization techniques, gate-stack physics, or semiconductor device physics is a strong asset.
  • Soft Skills: Analytical depth, creativity, curiosity, and a drive to solve challenging scientific problems.
  • Communication: Fluent in English, with the ability to communicate clearly and document work rigorously.
