Summary

The Lashuel Laboratory at Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar (WCM-Q) is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Associate. The laboratory utilizes chemical, biophysical, structural, and molecular biology approaches to uncover the molecular and structural basis of protein misfolding and aggregation, specifically focusing on their roles in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s disease, and ALS.

Eligibility / Qualification

  • Education: Ph.D. in biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, chemistry, molecular biology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience: Demonstrated several years of hands-on research experience in protein biochemistry, protein biophysics, and structural characterization.
  • Technical Skills: * Strong expertise in recombinant protein expression and multi-step purification (affinity, ion-exchange, and size-exclusion chromatography).
    • Proficiency with biophysical characterization methods (e.g., circular dichroism, fluorescence spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, SEC-MALS, analytical ultracentrifugation, ITC, and/or SPR).
    • Hands-on experience with one or more structural techniques (cryo-electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography, NMR, and/or negative-stain EM).
  • Soft Skills: Strong teamwork skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary, international team.

Job Description

  • Produce, purify, and characterize disease-relevant proteins to high purity and yield.
  • Lead biophysical and structural characterization and correlate structure with biological activity and toxicity.
  • Design and optimize experiments, analyze and interpret data rigorously, and present findings internally and at conferences.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication and contribute to grant applications and reports.
