Eligibility/Qualification

  • Degree Requirements: Candidates must hold a master’s or equivalent degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines, enabling them to be admitted to a Spanish PhD Programme by the fellowship’s start date (between January 1st and July 1st, 2027).  
  • Language: A solid working knowledge of English is required. Proof of proficiency (e.g., B2 certificate, First Certificate, IELTS 6) is highly desirable, though applicants from the Anglosphere are exempt. Late-stage candidates will be interviewed to assess their English level.
  • Nationalities: Open to graduate students of any nationality.  

Job Description

  • Perform an individual research project directed by an internationally renowned Group Leader.
  • Engage in complementary training for technical and soft skills, including the Severo Ochoa PhD Training Program (SHARP).
  • Have opportunities to participate in short, fully funded stays at international research institutions, universities, or companies.
  • Full-time commitment to ICIQ; researchers cannot receive any other fellowship with the same purpose or regular income.  
  • Pre-doctoral contracts are renewed annually for up to 4 years. The gross yearly salary is set at €25,456.10, divided into 12 monthly payments.

  2. Select one primary project (with the option to include a second choice).  
  3. Attach the following required documents in PDF format:
    • Full Curriculum Vitae
    • Personal Statement: Describe academic background, research experience, career goals, preferred research group, and interest in the specific project (max 2 DIN A4 pages).
    • Official Transcripts: Scanned copies of BSc and MSc records. If not in Catalan, Spanish, or English, a certified English translation must be included.  
    • Contact Details for References: Provide details for two individuals (e.g., University professors, Industry researchers) who can provide recommendation letters if shortlisted.
    • English Proficiency Certificate: (Optional but desirable).
  4. Candidates must ensure the application is fully completed, as incomplete submissions will not be considered.
