Research Area

Successful candidates will have the freedom to shape their research agenda within MIRA’s broader scientific direction. Topics of interest include:

  • Foundation models for autonomy, including LLMs, VLMs, and VLAs
  • Reinforcement Learning and Imitation Learning
  • Physical AI safety
  • Continual learning, generalization under distribution shift, and real-time adaptation
  • World models
  • Integration of learning with optimal control and model-based methods
  • Decision-making for large-scale, coordinated, multi-agent autonomous systems

Location

Turin, Italy

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in artificial intelligence, robotics, computer vision, machine learning, control, or a related field.
  • A strong publication record at top AI and robotics venues (e.g., NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, ICRA, IROS, RSS, CVPR, CoRL, L4DC).
  • Research depth in one or more of the core research areas listed above.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and fluency with modern deep learning frameworks.
  • Experience with physical robotic systems and autonomy software (including ROS or ROS 2) is highly valued.

Job Description

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will help shape the research agenda, experimental infrastructure, and scientific culture of the newly built MIRA lab. Your responsibilities and opportunities will include:

  • Leading ambitious projects and publishing at top international venues.
  • Building and testing methods on real robotic systems.
  • Mentoring junior researchers and contributing to the laboratory’s scientific direction.
  • Collaborating internationally with frontier research labs and institutions (e.g., Stanford, MIT, ETH Zurich, NASA, ESA).
