Eligibility Criteria
- Academic Degree: A relevant Master’s degree in Computer Science, Automation, Maritime-related Engineering, or equivalent (corresponding to a 5-year Norwegian course with 120 ECTS at the master’s level). Current Master’s students may apply if their degree will be completed before starting.
- Academic Performance: An average grade from the Master’s degree corresponding to B or better on NTNU’s grading scale.
- Program Admission: Must meet the requirements for admission to the faculty’s Doctoral Programme in Engineering within 3 months of employment.
- Language & Communication: Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Preferred Skills: Demonstrated motivation, experience with LLMs/AI/data-driven approaches (especially in maritime contexts), and the ability to work both independently and across multidisciplinary teams.
Scholarship Description & Benefits
- Research Focus: The PhD project investigates how LLM-driven interactive agents can perceive and interpret dynamic maritime environments, collaborate directly with human trainees during simulator sessions, provide transparent explanations, and adapt support to individual training needs.

- Annual gross salary of NOK 550,800 (subject to standard 2% deduction to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund).
