Research Area

The appointed researcher will engage in multidisciplinary research at the intersection of:

  • Post-quantum cryptography and applied cryptography
  • Deep learning and machine learning models
  • Reliable biometric feature retrieval and bio-cryptosystems
  • Coding theory and related mathematical disciplines

Location

This position is based at UNSW Canberra, ADFA Campus, located in the Australian Capital Territory (Canberra, ACT), Australia.

Eligibility & Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related discipline. Candidates who have recently submitted their PhD thesis and expect to confer their degree prior to commencement are welcome to apply.
  • Domain Knowledge: Strong theoretical or practical background in post-quantum cryptography, applied cryptography, or related mathematical fields such as coding theory.
  • Machine Learning Skills: Demonstrated capability to apply deep learning models and a willingness to utilize them for biometrics research.
  • Publication Track Record: A solid record of research publication in top-tier conferences or journals (such as Crypto, Eurocrypt, CCS, NDSS, IEEE TIFS, and IEEE TPAMI).
  • Work Rights: Full working rights in Australia are strictly required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Job Description & Responsibilities

The Research Associate will contribute to high-impact research supported by an ARC Discovery Grant. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Conducting independent and collaborative innovative research in post-quantum bio-cryptosystems and biometric security.
  • Developing deep-learning-based methodologies for reliable feature retrieval.
  • Publishing original research findings in high-impact international journals and top-ranked conferences.
  • Presenting research results at national and international academic conferences and workshops.
  • Collaborating with academic colleagues across the School of Systems and Computing.
