Summary
The Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL), Department of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a 3-year position. This fellowship is part of the “Physics-Adapted Numerical Methods for Two-Phase Flow” (PANum) project, a collaborative effort with Hasselt University in Belgium. The project aims to develop robust and efficient numerical methods for simulating two-phase flow, with applications in areas like CO2 storage and fuel cell design.

- Collaboration skills, ability to lead research paper writing, initiative in research, and scientific leadership potential.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Job Description
The successful candidate will join the PANum project, focusing on developing and analyzing numerical methods for two-phase flow. This involves implementing these methods in an open-source framework. The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with researchers from the Engineering Computing group at HVL and the Computational Mathematics group (CMAT) at Hasselt University, as well as PhD and master students involved in the project. The position includes an annual work expense funding for conference participation, research visits, and equipment. A career plan will be developed to support the postdoctoral researcher’s skill acquisition and career advancement.
How to Apply
Applicants must submit their application and CV online via the “Apply for this job” link. The application must include the following documentation uploaded as attachments:
- A brief cover letter (max one page) detailing research interests, motivation for the project, and a justification of qualifications against requirements.
- CV (including education, positions, and a complete list of academic publications).
- PhD thesis.
- Transcripts and diplomas for Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees. If the PhD degree is not yet awarded, a statement from the institution confirming thesis submission is required.
- Copies of up to 5 selected academic publications.
- Names and contact details of 2 references (name, relation to candidate, email, and telephone number).
If documents are not in a Scandinavian language or English, certified translations are required. Applicants with foreign degrees must submit a recognition document from HK-dir showing equivalence to a Norwegian degree, or proof of application to HK-dir. Short-listed candidates may be invited for a research presentation and interview.
