Job Description

As a postdoctoral researcher within the Infinity Fiber initiative, you will conduct research in separation science—including thermic and adsorptive separation processes—and process engineering, focusing on forest-industry streams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing separation models and conducting process modelling and assessment for selective recycling of valuable components in complex process streams.
  • Performing chemical characterisation and experimental studies on monosaccharides, oligosaccharides, lignin-related components, and degradation products.
  • Devising strategies to remove, suppress, or control components that restrict fibre circularity, recyclability, and material performance.
  • Working closely with academic colleagues in chemistry, chemical engineering, and environmental/energy systems, as well as 14 industrial partners.
  • Participating actively in the department’s day-to-day operations and research environment.

Eligibility and Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements

  • A completed PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or an equivalent foreign qualification, with a specialisation in separation science and process modelling.
  • The PhD must be completed no more than three years prior to the application deadline (exceptions apply for documented parental leave, illness, military service, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out research independently and collaboratively in interdisciplinary environments.
  • Excellent communication and proficiency in written and spoken English.

Assessment Criteria and Desirable Skills

  • Extensive documented research experience and strong publication track record in separation science and process modelling.
  • Experience in characterising complex process streams and developing separation/purification processes.
  • Demonstrated competence in combining experimental findings with modelling to optimise processes.
  • Experience with industry collaborations and research related to lignocellulosic materials, biomass, or circular material streams.
  • Knowledge of Process Analytical Technology (PAT), Quality by Design (QbD), or machine learning approaches is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in Swedish is advantageous.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted electronically through the university’s online recruitment system (Varbi). Please ensure all documents are submitted in Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, or English, or accompanied by certified translations.

Your application must include:

  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  2. Cover letter detailing your qualifications and research interests relevant to the position.
  3. An account of administrative experience.
  4. Full list of publications (clearly specifying your role in multi-authored publications).
  5. An account of language skills.
  6. Copy of the PhD certificate or official proof of completion.
  7. Up to 10 scientific publications and up to 5 knowledge-transfer materials (e.g., teaching resources, software, popular science articles).
  8. Contact details for two professional references (at least one must be a current or former supervisor).
