Research Officer in Translational Immunology: The Department of Surgery at the School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Melbourne, is seeking a highly motivated Research Officer in Translational Immunology. This full-time, fixed-term position for 12 months, with prospects of extension up to 3 years, offers the opportunity to work with renowned experts and contribute to clinical trials in sepsis treatment. The role involves translating discoveries into treatments and prevention strategies for infectious diseases. The salary range is $80,258 – $108,906 p.a., plus 17% super.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology, or related disciplines.
  • Strong background in immunology and/or cell biology or related areas of interest.
  • Ability to work with primary human tissues and/or cells according to ethical guidelines.
  • Sound knowledge of biosafety issues in handling infectious agents and primary human samples.
  • Strong background in high-dimensional flow cytometry.

Job Description:

  • Join the laboratory of Prof. Jose Villadangos in collaboration with Dr. Laura Cook at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity.
  • Develop a well-funded and supported, semi-independent research program focused on fundamental mechanisms of immunity.
  • Conduct experiments using primary cells, organoid models, and clinical cohort samples.
  • Contribute to groundbreaking projects aiming to translate discoveries into novel treatments and prevention strategies for infectious diseases and sepsis.
  • Analyze experimental data, including qualitative and statistical analysis, and communicate findings to investigators and collaborators.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed research records.
  • Prepare and submit competitive grant applications related to the research program.
