Fully Funded PhD Positions in Evodevo: Embark on a fascinating journey into the evolution of little-known aquatic invertebrate animals! The Wanninger Lab, funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), is offering two fully funded PhD positions to investigate the biology of sessile worm snails (vermitids). This interdisciplinary project will use morphological, molecular, and bioinformatic tools to unravel the factors driving the radical morphological transformation in these marine mollusks.

Location: University Biology Building (UBB), Vienna, Austria

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc degree or equivalent in Biology or a related field.
  • Proficient in written and oral English.
  • Ability to work in an international and multicultural team.
  • Experience in morphological, molecular, or bioinformatic applications.
  • Experience with small invertebrates is advantageous but not required.

Job Description: As a PhD student, you will:

  • Work on individually designed projects within the evodevo, morphology, and genomics field.
  • Receive expert training in state-of-the-art techniques.
  • Enroll in the Vienna Doctoral School of Ecology and Evolution (VDSEE).
  • Collaborate with a dynamic team of evolutionary biologists.
  • Contribute to the generation and analysis of scientific data.
  • Co-supervise BSc and MSc students in the lab.
  • Write scientific papers and present research at international conferences.
  • Participate in departmental seminars and teaching activities.
