PhD Scholarship Composite Materials: Linköping University is seeking a motivated individual to join as a PhD student in the field of advanced fibre reinforced polymer composite materials. Designation: PhD Student in Advanced Composite Materials

Research Area: The research will focus on advanced fibre reinforced polymer composite materials, with a specific emphasis on investigating manufacturing defects and developing damage models for lighter aeroengines application, in collaboration with GKN Aerospace Sweden AB.

Location: Linköping University, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or Material Science or completion of courses with a minimum of 240 credits, with at least 60 credits in advanced material science courses.
  • Knowledge and experience in composite materials, classical laminate theory, manufacturing of composite laminates, mechanical testing and measurement techniques, and damage in polymer composites would be advantageous.
  • Advanced skills in spoken and written English are required. Proficiency in Swedish is an advantage.

Job Description: The PhD student will engage in both experimental and theoretical research, investigating the impact of manufacturing parameters on defects in composite laminates and their effects on mechanical performance. Additionally, they will develop methodologies to predict the mechanical performance of damaged composite laminates and disseminate their findings at national and international conferences, along with publications in scientific journals. The position allows for potential involvement in teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.
