Postdoc position 2019 in Germany, University of Bayreuth
Designation/Position- Postdoc position 2019 in Germany
University of Bayreuth invites application for Postdoc position 2019 in Germany from eligible and interested candidates
About- In a project recently funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, we currently seek a talented postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d) to join our team at the Department of Biochemistry of the University of Bayreuth. Our research focuses on sensory photoreceptors which mediate manifold organismal adaptations to incident light. In optogenetics, photoreceptors double as genetically encoded, light-gated actuators to enable the precise optical manipulation of a cohort of cellular processes. We deploy molecular biology, protein biochemistry, optical spectroscopy, electrochemistry, protein engineering, high-throughput screening and X-ray crystallography to elucidate the molecular bases and mechanisms of photoreception; resultant insight informs the design of novel photoreceptors for use in optogenetics. Postdoc position 2019 in Germany
Research/Job Area- Biochemistry, Biology, Biophysics, Chemistry or a related discipline
Location- University of Bayreuth, Germany
Eligibility/Qualification–
The ideal candidate holds an excellent Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Biophysics, Chemistry or a related discipline.
Enthusiasm for experimental research, self-reliance, ability to work in a team and good English skills are expected.
Pertinent training and research experience in several of the following subjects are of decisive advantage: molecular biology, protein biochemistry, electrochemistry, protein crystallography, biomolecular spectroscopy and cell culture.
Job/Position Description- The present project strives to unravel signal detection and integration in the blue-light-sensitive light-oxygen-voltage (LOV) receptors. In addition to blue light, LOV receptors also process voltage and temperature inputs and respond via a range of outputs. Using assorted biochemical and biophysical techniques, we seek to decipher at the molecular level the interplay between the various input and output modes of LOV receptors.
The Department of Biochemistry at the University of Bayreuth provides top-notch instrumentation for biochemistry, electrochemistry, protein crystallography, optical spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and flow cytometry. By offering excellent training and research infrastructure, the institute and the university create a highly interdisciplinary and stimulating environment for biochemical projects. The position is available immediately for up to three years, and salary is according to the TV-L scale E13.
How to Apply- Applications should be sent as a single PDF to the below email address and comprise CV, list of publications and contact information for two referees willing to provide reference letters.
A motivation letter explaining your interest in our research should be included as well.
