Summary

The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our Detector Science and Characterization Group. The successful candidate will work on innovative research in the development of Low Gain Avalanche Diode (LGAD) sensors tailored for the soft X-ray “deep water window” energy range.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Education: PhD in physics, electronic engineering, or a related field concerning solid-state detectors.
  • Experience: Familiarity with radiation detectors; knowledge of silicon sensor design is an advantage.
  • Skills: Proficiency in Technology Computer Aided Design (TCAD) simulations, preferably using Synopsys or Silvaco tools.
  • Attributes: Highly motivated, independent, collaborative, and effective communicator in English.

Job Description

  • Lead the simulation, optimization, and design of next-generation thin-entrance window and LGAD pixel sensors.
  • Focus on developing technologies for the soft X-ray “deep water window” energy range.
  • Participate in the characterization of developed sensors and perform data analysis for capability understanding.
  • Collaborate with beamline scientists and engage in pilot experiments at synchrotrons to validate performance using state-of-the-art X-ray detectors.
  • Gain insights into all aspects of detector development, from design to final pilot experiments, while working within a strong teamwork-oriented environment.
