About- MACS-Agharkar Research Institute (ARI) an autonomous Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India is committed to the promotion of science and technology with emphasis on high standards of research and development activities for the benefit of humankind and the nation. The current research activities encompass biological sciences and focus on six thematic areas Biodiversity & Palaeobiology, Bioenergy, Bioprospecting, Developmental Biology, Genetics & Plant Breeding and Nanobioscience.
Research/Job Area- Genetics and Plant Breeding
Genetics and Plant Breeding, with a focus on:
- Soybean varietal improvement
- Hybridisation and introgression breeding
- Germplasm maintenance and seed production
- Field crop experimentation and data analysis
Location- Hol Farm, Baramati, District Pune, Maharashtra, Agharkar Research Institute (ARI), Pune
Eligibility/Qualification–
Essential Qualification:
- Master’s degree with specialization in Genetics & Plant Breeding (Agriculture) or equivalent qualification from a recognized university.
Desirable Qualification:
- Ph.D. in relevant discipline (Genetics & Plant Breeding / Agriculture).
- Experience under ICAR’s AICRP Schemes (especially soybean/legume/field crops).
- Minimum 5 years of research experience in plant breeding, varietal development, or genetic stock registration, supported by evidence.
- Key Skills Required
 Expertise in field trial management and hybridisation techniques.
 Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation using computer-based tools.
 Ability in seed production, documentation, and varietal evaluation.
 Experience in farm operations and working knowledge of local languages.
 Strong communication and coordination skills for liaison with ICAR, KVKs, FPOs, and other agencies.
 Age Limit
 Upper Age Limit: 40 years (including relaxation for ST category).
 Additional relaxations as per Government of India rules for Govt. servants or special categories.

Project Scientist – B (Genetics & Plant Breeding)
(Under ICAR–AICRP Soybean Improvement Project)
The Project Scientist–B will be responsible for planning, executing, and reporting field and laboratory-based research activities in the ICAR-AICRP Soybean Improvement Project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and conduct field trials, including land preparation, sowing, and crop management.
- Execute and coordinate All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) soybean breeding trials.
- Carry out hybridisation and introgression breeding to generate genetic variability.
- Screen advanced breeding lines (F₂–F₆) for important agronomic traits.
- Manage germplasm, nucleus seed, and breeder seed multiplication.
- Record experimental observations, analyze data using statistical software, and prepare reports.
- Write research papers, proposals, and scientific communications.
- Disseminate soybean breeding technologies and interact with state/central institutes, seed agencies, and farmer organizations.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the institute to ensure project success.
