About- The Government of India, through the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), has set up Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Jais, Uttar Pradesh on the lines of IITs under the Act of Parliament 54/2007 with an empowerment to award degrees and conduct front-end research. Institue has been granted status of “An Institution of National Importance” by the Parliament. The Institue is promoted by six leading Oil PSUs (ONGC, IOCL, OIL, GAIL, BPCL and HPCL) in India, in association with Oil Industrial Development Board (OIDB) and positioned as a “World Class” Institution.

Eligibility/Qualification–
Minimum Academic Qualification (for all faculty positions):
- PhD in the appropriate branch with first class or equivalent (in terms of grades, etc.) at the preceding degree,
- Very good academic record throughout all preceding degrees.
For Assistant Professor, Grade–II (on Contract):
- PhD with first class or equivalent at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch.
- Very good academic record in all preceding degrees.
- For a fresh PhD, the appointment will be on contract basis for the first three years.
- Experience gained during PhD will not be counted for experience requirement.
Additional Requirement for Engineering Disciplines:
- Applicants for the post of Assistant Professor in engineering disciplines must possess a B Tech degree in the relevant discipline.
Age Limit:
- Upper age limit: 35 years as on 31 December 2023 for Assistant Professor.
- Age relaxation in exceptional cases may be considered.
- For reserved category candidates, relaxation is admissible as per Government of India norms.
Reservation:
- Reservation at entry level will be applicable as per Government of India norms.
- Candidates belonging to reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/PwD) must upload Caste/Category Certificate in the prescribed format of Government of India.
- The Institute follows the Central List in the case of SC/ST, OBCs, and PwD.
Foreign Nationals:
- Foreign National means a person who does not hold an Indian passport or a PIO/OCI card.
- Foreign nationals can be offered contractual appointment up to five years, renewable based on performance.

Career Progression:
- After completion of 1 year experience from the date of award of PhD (excluding PhD period experience), the incumbent will move to:
- Academic Pay Level–11, and
- After completion of 3 years (as per Institute norms), move to:
- Academic Pay Level–12 as Assistant Professor Grade–I.

- Faculty positions involve training at operating oil production units (onshore and offshore) and refineries for all disciplines, as required by the Institute and/or sponsoring organizations.
