Research Fellow in Equine Microbiota: The University of Surrey is seeking a Research Fellow to join an interdisciplinary research team focused on equine microbiota. This exciting opportunity, funded by the Horserace Betting Levy Board, involves leading research on identifying candidate probiotic bacteria to enhance the health of racing horses. The successful candidate will contribute to a dynamic research environment and collaborate across departments to advance our understanding of equine gut microbiome.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Strong interest and relevant experience in animal gut microbiome research
  • Experience with metagenomic data analysis (desirable)
  • Knowledge of bacterial culture, metabolomics, and sequence-based genotyping
  • Ability to collaborate with industry partners for commercialization

Job Description: As a Research Fellow in Equine Microbiota, you will:

  • Lead the analysis of metagenomic sequence data to identify candidate probiotic bacteria
  • Perform selective culture from equine faecal samples
  • Conduct phenotypic and genotypic characterization of candidate bacteria
  • Contribute to research enhancing the health of racehorses through microbiota manipulation
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and industry partners for project success
  • Participate in discussions, meetings, and knowledge-sharing activities
