About- The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu was inaugurated on 6th August 2016, and welcomed the first batch of students into the campus in Paloura, Jammu. In the initial phases, the establishment of IIT Jammu was done under the mentorship of IIT Delhi.

Research Areas

Biosciences & Bioengineering: Medical devices, biomedical instrumentation, bioelectronics, drug designing, structural biology, neuroscience, bioprocess engineering.
Chemical Engineering: Process control, biopharmaceutical engineering, AI/computational chemical engineering, nanomaterials, advanced catalysis, circular economy, separation technologies, green hydrogen and CCUS.
Chemistry: Pharmaceutical, organic, physical, inorganic, analytical and materials chemistry; electrochemistry, polymer chemistry, AI/ML and biomaterials.
Civil Engineering: Air pollution, construction management, cementitious materials, transportation, soil mechanics, computational geotechnics, 3D-printed construction, urban hydrology and water resources.
Computer Science & Engineering: Theoretical CS, networks, operating systems, cyber-physical systems, quantum computing, embedded systems, AI and robotics.
Electrical Engineering: Embedded systems, mixed-signal IC design, communication networks, quantum sensing and communication, core AI.
Materials Engineering: Electronic and semiconductor materials, functional and quantum materials, thin films, perovskites/solar cells, materials informatics, AI/ML, computational metallurgy and DFT.
Mathematics: Probability and statistics, analysis, differential equations, numerical analysis, number theory, algebra, combinatorics, geometry and topology.
Mechanical Engineering: Robotics, AI/ML in design, vehicle and rotor dynamics, turbomachinery, HVAC, renewable energy, smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0.
Physics: Microelectronics, VLSI, quantum information/computation, plasma physics, statistical mechanics, optics/photonics, optoelectronics and theoretical astrophysics.

Eligibility / Qualification

Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess:

Ph.D. in a relevant area
First class or equivalent in preceding degrees

Experience Requirements

Professor

Minimum 10 years of teaching/research/industrial experience.
At least 4 years at Associate Professor level in IITs/similar institutes of national importance or equivalent institutions.
Demonstrated research leadership through Ph.D. supervision, reputed publications, patents, laboratory/course development and sponsored research. IITJMUFaculty012026 (1)

Associate Professor

Minimum 6 years of teaching/industry/research experience.
At least 3 years as Assistant Professor in an academic institution.
Evidence of independent research, Ph.D./M.Tech supervision, publications, patents, laboratory/course development and sponsored projects. IITJMUFaculty012026 (1)

Assistant Professor Grade-I

Minimum 3 years of relevant industrial, research or teaching experience, excluding experience gained while pursuing Ph.D.
Demonstrated research capability through publications in reputed journals.

Assistant Professor Grade-II

Candidates meeting the requirements except the post-Ph.D. experience requirement for Grade-I may be appointed as Assistant Professor Grade-II, with pay determined according to post-doctoral experience. IITJMUFaculty012026 (1)

Visiting/Retired Professor

Candidates from CFTIs may be appointed on contract/deputation.
Expected to have a proven record of teaching, research and leadership.

Job Description

Selected faculty members will be expected to contribute to:

Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Conducting high-quality independent and collaborative research.
Supervising M.Tech. and Ph.D. students.
Developing laboratories and academic courses.
Publishing research in reputed journals and conferences.
Developing patents and sponsored research projects.
Contributing to emerging, interdisciplinary and translational research.
Participating in institutional academic and professional activities.

Faculty Research Support

IIT Jammu provides substantial support for research and professional development, including:

Startup seed grant up to ₹30 lakh
Additional matching grant up to ₹30 lakh for developing high-value research facilities in emerging areas.
