Postdoctoral Position in Protein Translation, Ustun Lab, Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany

Postdoc in Germany

Postdoctoral Position in Protein Translation: Join the Ustun Lab in investigating how pathogenic bacteria manipulate protein translation through the formation and utilization of cytosolic membraneless aggregates known as processing bodies (PBs). This research aims to understand the global PB-dependent translatome during infection and the interplay between hormone signaling, TOR activity, and PBs.

Postdoctoral Position in Protein Translation Manipulation by Pathogenic Bacteria

Designation: Postdoctoral Position

Research Area: Protein homeostasis (proteostasis) and translational control in response to environmental stimuli, with a focus on understanding how bacteria utilize processing bodies (PBs) to repress translation during infection.

Location: Ustun Lab, DFG and European Research Council, Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field
  • Experience in molecular biology, preferably with experience in translatome studies and Arabidopsis
  • Excellent English communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Strong motivation for innovative research in plant proteostasis

Job Description:

  • Investigate the global PB-dependent translatome during bacterial infection
  • Identify and analyze mRNA composition within PBs during infection
  • Examine the interplay between hormone signaling, TOR activity, and PBs
  • Utilize a combination of techniques including single-cell RNA sequencing, proximity-labelling, confocal microscopy, proteomics, in vitro assays, genetic and transcriptomic approaches (Ribo-Seq) using Arabidopsis thaliana as a model organism
  • Collaborate within a scientifically stimulating and inclusive environment supported by grants from the DFG and the European Research Council

How to Apply:
Interested candidates should submit a composite PDF file in English including:

  • A letter of motivation detailing research interests/ideas and how this project aligns with their goals
  • Curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Names and addresses of at least two referees Applications should be sent via email to suayb.uestuen@rub.de. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until a suitable candidate is found. The deadline for applications is May 31, 2024.

Last Date for Apply: May 31, 2024
