Postdoctoral Researcher in Evolutionary Ecology: ETH Zurich is inviting applications for a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher to join the Velicer lab in Zurich, Switzerland. This position involves taking over an ongoing, large-scale evolution experiment analyzing the interactions between microbial predators and their bacterial prey communities.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • PhD in a relevant field (microbial ecology, community ecology, evolutionary biology)
  • Strong background in experimental evolution, microbial interactions, community metagenomics, molecular genetics, and/or predator-prey dynamics
  • Experience with microbial culturing techniques, experimental design, and quantitative data analysis
  • Proven ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals and present research at scientific meetings
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse team
  • Strong motivation to pursue independent research and apply for external funding

Job Description

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead and complete an ongoing large-scale evolution experiment investigating predator-prey co-adaptation and the impact of diverse types of predators on prey community diversity and stability.
  • Publish research findings in high-quality journals and present at international conferences.
  • Contribute to the development of new research directions within the lab’s broader interests.
  • Collaborate with team members and mentor students.
  • Apply for external funding to support future research projects.
