Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Required:
  • Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Chemistry or a closely related field in hand by January 31, 2025.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience in molecular inorganic/organometallic synthesis and catalysis.
  • Proficiency in the synthesis of iron complexes and air-free synthetic techniques.
  • Familiarity with NMR (1D and 2D), FTIR, NMR, SC-XRD, EPR, and Mossbauer Spectroscopy.

Job Description:

The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in conducting research that focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and reactivity of iron cyanide complexes. The role includes:

  • Synthesis, purification, and characterization of organic and inorganic molecules.
  • Mechanistic investigations of the formation of iron carbonyl/cyanide complexes and their reactivity and stability in prebiotic and astrochemical contexts.
  • Preparing manuscripts for publication and presentations for scientific conferences.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment upkeep and ordering supplies.
  • Mentoring junior researchers and contributing to a positive lab safety culture.
