POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP (2 YEARS), Umeå University, Sweden

Postdoc Position (2 years) 2019 in Sweden, Umeå University

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP (2 YEARS): Umeå University is offering a postdoctoral fellowship in Molecular Parasitology to work on uncovering the molecular processes underpinning the parasite-host interactions that drive malaria infection and disease. The successful candidate will leverage the genetic tractability of the murine malaria model parasite Plasmodium berghei and develop new genetic tools and phenotypic assays.

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP (2 YEARS) IN MOLECULAR PARASITOLOGY

Designation

Postdoctoral Fellow

Research Area

Molecular Parasitology, with a focus on malaria research

Location

Umeå, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Doctoral degree (or equivalent) in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Immunology or related fields
  • Experience in advanced molecular cloning methods such as Gibson assembly or CRISPR/Cas9 vector design and construction
  • Experience in next generation sequencing methodologies, particularly RNA bulk or single cell sequencing
  • Desirable: Experience in handling of laboratory animals and in cultivation and transfection of eukaryotic parasites
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English

Job Description

  • Capitalize on the recently developed PbHiT CRISPR/Cas9-based high-throughput system to adapt perturb-seq methodology to P. berghei
  • Leverage the perturb-seq approach to uncover the molecular function of thousands of parasite genes required for normal growth in the bloodstream
  • Generate mutant transcriptomes at an unparalleled scale to understand the parasite-host interactions driving malaria infection and disease
