Designation/Position- Master Degree
University of Trieste, International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Italy offers two-year advanced training programme of Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics (MMP) as a joint program. The programme is designed to provide young, promising graduates of physics or related fields (mainly from developing countries) with postgraduate theoretical and clinical training.
About- CTP and the University of Trieste announce the sixth cycle of the Master’s Programme in Medical Physics (MMP), a two-year advanced training programme in the field of medical physics, co-sponsored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), supported by the International Organisation for Medical Physics (IOMP) and the European Federation of Organization for Medical Physics (EFOMP) and in collaboration with Trieste University Hospitals.
The Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics (MMP) is a two-year advanced training programme run jointly by ICTP and the University of Trieste. The programme is designed to provide young, promising graduates of physics or related fields (mainly from developing countries) with postgraduate theoretical and clinical training so that they may be recognised as clinical medical physicists in their home countries.
Research/Job area– Physics, Medical or related fields
The first year of the programme includes the following courses –
- Anatomy and and physiology as applied to medical physics
- Radiobiology
- Radiation physics
- Radiation dosimetry
- Physics of nuclear medicine
- Medical imaging fundamentals
- Physics of diagnostic and interventional radiology (X rays, US, MRI, Hybrid systems)
- Physics of radiation oncology
- Radiation protection
- Information Technology in medical physics
Project Title- Advanced Studies in Medical Physics
Location- University of Trieste, International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Italy
Eligibility/Qualification- The minimum qualification for applicants is a degree equivalent to an MSc in physics or related fields. The selection of candidates will be based on their university performance, research activity and professional experience in the field. Adequate proficiency in English language is required. The Programme is open to young (generally below 30 years of age) qualified graduates from countries that are members of the United Nations, UNESCO or IAEA.
In addition to course examinations, the Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics requires participants to work on a dissertation to be submitted and defended during the last month of the programme. The master’s degree will be awarded by the University of Trieste only to those candidates who successfully complete all examinations, clinical training, and other requirements as may be decided by the Master’s Committee. Participants will also be required to take part in ongoing activities of ICTP in their related fields.
Job/Position Description- The programme comprises a year of basic and advanced courses (taught in English) prepared with the assistance of experts from ICTP’s UN partner the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This is followed by a year of professional clinical training in a medical physics department of a hospital in the programme’s training network.
Scholarships are available for candidates from developing countries.
The MMP is co-sponsored by the IAEA, and is supported by the International Organisation for Medical Physics (IOMP) and the European Federation of Organizations in Medical Physics (EFOMP), in collaboration with Trieste hospitals. The Master’s Programme has been accredited by the International Organisation for Medical Physics (IOMP).
How to Apply- Individuals wishing to apply for the Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics must complete the online application form.
The applicant has to submit a CV, a transcription of the university degree and can also submit a letter of recommendation from senior scientists familiar with the applicant. Scientists making recommendations should indicate if they have any contacts at the ICTP.
