Postdoc Researcher – Catalytic Approaches: The University of Groningen is seeking a highly motivated Postdoc Researcher to focus on the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel peptide surfactants derived from amino acids and fatty alcohols/acids, using hydrogen-borrowing catalysis. This role is part of an innovative project aimed at creating fully renewable peptide-based surfactants.

Location: University of Groningen, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Netherlands

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD degree in Chemistry
  • Solid knowledge and demonstrated skills in synthetic organic chemistry; expertise in catalysis and peptide chemistry are strongly recommended
  • Proven publication record in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Experience supervising BSc/MSc/PhD students is advantageous
  • Proactive and motivated approach to research opportunities

Job Description:

  • Design, synthesize, and characterize bio-based peptide surfactants.
  • Conduct ligand and catalyst screening for efficient C–N bond formation.
  • Engage in AI- and robotics-driven workflows to optimize catalytic performance and surfactant properties.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including industrial partners and AI/robotics developers.
  • Deliver new bio-based peptide surfactants and establish a sustainable synthesis platform.
