Summary
Each academic year, ViCAS hosts approximately 30 fellows across three different residency periods. The program seeks outstanding scholars from all academic disciplines who have a strong record of achievement and a genuine interest in interdisciplinary engagement and active participation in the Centre’s community.

Research Area
Open to all academic disciplines. ViCAS encourages projects that foster interdisciplinary exchange, exploration of new research questions, and the development of ideas that shape future research agendas.
Location
Vienna Centre for Advanced Studies, University of Vienna, Austria. Fellows are provided with a dedicated workspace at the ViCAS premises in the historic city centre (Hofburg).
Eligibility / Qualification
Mid-Career Fellowships
- Doctoral degree awarded at least three years ago by the call deadline.
- Excellent record of research achievements relative to career stage.
- Established independent research profile.
- Endorsement by a professor at the University of Vienna.
Advanced Fellowships
- Doctoral degree awarded at least eight years ago by the call deadline.
- Established track record of research excellence.
- Demonstrated academic leadership.
- Endorsement by a professor at the University of Vienna.
Job Description
Fellows are expected to:
- Be present on-site throughout their fellowship duration.
- Contribute actively to the lively ViCAS community through formal and informal interaction.
- Participate in center activities, seminars, and collaborative research initiatives.
- Engage with researchers at the University of Vienna to foster lasting intellectual connections.
