PhD Position in Biosystematics: The Department of Natural History at the University Museum of Bergen, Norway, is offering a PhD position in the field of biosystematics of marine invertebrates. The successful candidate will contribute to a research project focused on the diversity, systematics, phylogeny, and biogeography of siphonophores (Cnidaria: Hydrozoa). This position is for a fixed-term period of 4 years, including 25% of other compulsory work in the invertebrate collections.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- Master of Science degree (MSc) or equivalent in zoology, evolutionary biology, or biosystematics (with Master’s thesis submitted prior to the application deadline).
- Experience with molecular laboratory work and phylogenetic analyses.
- Availability for fieldwork, participation in cruises, and travel abroad to study biological collections.
- Proficiency in English, both oral and written.
Job Description:
- Study the diversity of siphonophores in Norwegian waters and on a wider scale using integrative morphological and molecular taxonomic methods.
- Describe baseline diversity for siphonophores and other pelagic hydrozoans in the underexplored Norwegian Sea.
- Collect fresh material for molecular work and curated museal reference collections.
- Use integrative taxonomy to identify and describe cryptic diversity in selected taxa.
- Investigate distributional patterns of siphonophores and the extent of cryptic diversity using existing and novel genetic data.
- Collaborate with the Cnidaria and Ctenophora team, as well as other projects focusing on mitogenomics of bipolar species.
- Contribute to fieldwork, taxonomic identifications, phylogenetics, species delimitation, and other analyses.
- Write scientific articles and present research findings at international scientific meetings.
