About- Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) (PEC), having its roots in Lahore as Mugalpura Engineering College in 1921, moved to its present campus in 1953 as PEC affiliated to Panjab University. The institute became Deemed University in 2003 through an MHRD notification and rechristened as PEC University of Technology in 2009. It is a Grant-in-Aid institution under the administration of Union Territory of Chandigarh, Government of India.

Contractual positions are available in the following departments/centres (teaching and research areas as per institute needs and preferred specializations in the brochure):

Within each department, preferred specializations (for teaching and research) are listed in Table–II of the brochure (e.g., AI/ML, Data Science, Structural Engg., Power Systems, VLSI, Design & Manufacturing, Quantum Technologies, Finance/Marketing/HRM, English Language Teaching, etc.).
Eligibility/Qualification-
All qualifications, experience, and specializations must be in relevant/appropriate branches as specified in Table–II of the brochure.
- Assistant Professor (Engineering / Design)
- Ph.D. in the relevant field.
- First class or equivalent at both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree levels in the appropriate branch.
- Relevant branches/specializations as per department-specific requirements listed in Table–II.
- Shortlisting will be done based on academic score (Table–III); final selection is based on performance in the selection process.
- Assistant Professor (Sciences, Humanities, Arts – e.g., Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, CMH)
- Ph.D. in the relevant field.
- First class or equivalent at both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree levels in the appropriate branch.
- NET/SLET/SET qualified is mandatory, except for candidates registered for Ph.D. prior to 11 July 2009 who satisfy the UGC-exemption conditions (regular Ph.D., external evaluation, open viva, publications and conference papers, certification by the parent university).
- Shortlisting based on Table–III; selection based on performance in the selection process.
- Associate Professor
- Ph.D. in the relevant field with First class or equivalent at Bachelor’s and Master’s level in the relevant branch.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in teaching and/or research in an academic/research position equivalent to Assistant Professor.
- At least 7 publications in SCIE/SSCI/AHCI/ABDC indexed journals.
- Minimum research score of 75, as per Table–IV.
- Professor
- Ph.D. in the relevant field with First class or equivalent at Bachelor’s and Master’s level in the relevant branch.
- Minimum 10 years of teaching experience as Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor, and/or equivalent research experience at University/National level Institutions, with evidence of successfully guided doctoral candidates.
- At least 10 publications in SCIE/SSCI/AHCI/ABDC indexed journals.
- Minimum research score of 120, as per Table–IV.
- Reservation & Relaxation
- Only Indian citizens are eligible.
- Reservation for SC/OBC (Non-creamy layer) as per Chandigarh Administration / Govt. of India norms.
- OBC (Non-creamy layer) certificate must be issued on or after 01.04.2025 by the competent authority.
- 5% relaxation in qualifying marks at Bachelor’s and Master’s level for SC/OBC (Non-creamy layer) candidates.
Job/Position Description-
Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh invites applications from Indian citizens for contractual faculty positions on a purely temporary basis for a period of three years. This is a rolling advertisement (No. PEC/Rolling Advt./2025/01, dated 08.11.2025) for Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor positions across various Engineering, Science, and Humanities departments/centres.
Applications will be accepted throughout the year and processed twice annually for shortlisting and selection, subject to the availability of vacancies at each cycle.
Designation
Contractual faculty positions are available at the following levels:
- Professor
- Associate Professor
- Assistant Professor
All posts are purely temporary and contractual for three years.
- Teaching and Instruction
- Conduct undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses in the relevant department/centre.
- Develop course material, laboratories, and innovative pedagogical tools (including ICT-based content, MOOCs, e-content where applicable).
- Research & Scholarly Activity
- Carry out independent and collaborative research in the relevant field.
- Publish research work in SCIE/SSCI/AHCI/ABDC indexed journals.
- Supervise undergraduate/postgraduate projects and, where applicable, doctoral research.
- Academic & Institutional Development
- Contribute to curriculum development, new course design, and academic reforms.
- Participate in department, institute committees, and outreach/extension activities.
- Utilize Professional Development Allowance and seed money for academic growth and lab development as per institute rules.
- Contractual Terms & Remuneration
- Appointment is purely on temporary contractual basis for three years.
- Consolidated monthly salary (Table–V):
- Professor:
Rs. 1,44,200/- + DA - Associate Professor:
Rs. 1,31,400/- + DA - Assistant Professor:
Rs. 57,700/- + DA
- Professor:
- HRA admissible as per applicable rates; no campus accommodation.
- No increments and no other allowances beyond those specified.
- Salary subject to TDS and other statutory deductions.
- NPS applicable only to those who already have PRAN.
- Professional Development Allowance: Up to
Rs. 1.0 lakh per year(on pro-rata basis) over 3 years for academic events within India. - Seed money:
Rs. 10.0 lakhsfor lab development (proposal to be submitted after joining with one regular faculty as co-PI). - Contingency grant:
Rs. 2.0 lakhsfor the entire contract period for professional-development-related items. - Appointment subject to medical fitness.
- Selection Process & Shortlisting
- Applications are scrutinized and scored strictly as per Table–III (Assistant Professor) and Table–IV (Associate Professor & Professor) based on documentary evidence.
- Shortlisted candidates will undergo a seminar/sample teaching session and an interview.
- Maximum 15 candidates are called for interview per post, with 5 additional candidates for every additional post in a category.
- Fulfilling minimum eligibility does not guarantee being called for the selection process.
