Postdoctoral Position in Human Population Genetics and Ancient DNA Analyses of African Populations

Location: Uppsala, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD degree in genetics, bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in English is mandatory.
  • Previous experience in large-scale genetic data analysis is required.
  • Three years’ post-PhD experience is preferred.
  • Background in evolutionary genetics/genomics, population genetics, and human evolution.
  • Strong bioinformatics background, preferably with experience in ancient DNA or related fields.
  • Additional qualifications: Mathematical, computational, and statistical training; Fieldwork experience (especially in Africa); Interest/background in African history.

Job Description: The selected candidate will be responsible for managing and analyzing diverse datasets, implementing scripts, running population genetic software, and conducting programming and statistical analysis. The research focuses on genetic adaptations and evolution in African populations in relation to changing lifeways and environments. The work involves collaboration within the Schlebusch group and the Human Evolution Program.

Second Postdoctoral Position: Human Population Genetics of African Populations

Work Description: We are offering a second postdoctoral position focusing on the human population genetics of African populations. This project, funded by the Carl Tryggers Stiftelse stipend, will be conducted within the Schlebusch group, Human Evolution Program, Department of Organismal Biology at Uppsala University, Sweden. The research aims to investigate the historical spread of farming practices in Africa using genomic data from contemporary and ancient populations.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field (evolutionary/population genetics, computational biology, bioinformatics) at the starting date.
  • Experience in handling Next Generation Sequencing data, demographic analysis, and scripting/programming.
  • Additional advantageous experience: Mathematical, computational, and statistical training; Fieldwork experience (especially in Africa); Interest/background in African history.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
