Research Associate/Fellow in Surface Analysis: The School of Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham is inviting applications for the position of Research Associate/Fellow in Surface Analysis – Mass Spectrometry Imaging of Polysaccharides. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research team led by Dr. Andrew Hook, contributing to a project exploring the role of polysaccharides in sepsis, cancer, and biogenesis. The project involves collaboration with international partners at the University of Colorado, University of Munster, and University Medical Center Hamburg.

Location: University Park, School of Pharmacy, University of Nottingham

Salary: £30,487 to £33,966 per annum (pro rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (£33,966 with relevant PhD).

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD or equivalent (pending or awarded) in chemistry/analytical chemistry/mass spectrometry or a relevant discipline.
  • Past experience in working within a multidisciplinary team in an academic setting.
  • Essential experience with surface analysis, and specific knowledge of SIMS analysis is highly desirable.

Job Description:

Research Associate/Fellow in Surface Analysis – Mass Spectrometry Imaging of Polysaccharides (Fixed term)

The role involves optimizing and acquiring SIMS data on biological samples supplied by international collaborators. The Research Associate/Fellow will play a key role in building and maintaining collaborations with partner institutions, including visits and hosting researchers. Responsibilities include day-to-day management of the research project, requiring excellent time management, organizational skills, and precision in results generation and data analysis. Critical thinking, accurate record-keeping, and a flexible approach to collaborative research are vital.

This full-time post (36.25 hours per week) is offered on a fixed-term contract for 13 months, with the possibility of job share arrangements.
