The Postdoctoral Fellow will undertake collaborative and self-directed research on an ARC funded Discovery Project titled “Determining features that separate groups of protein sequences”

Location- School of Mathematics and Statistics – UNSW Sydney, Australia

Research/Job Area- Bioinformatics, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or related field

Eligibility/Qualification- To be successful in this role you will:

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or related field
  • Knowledge of Operations Research and experience in protein sequence analysis is desirable, though not essential
  • Strong research and publication track record (relative to career opportunity)
  • Demonstrated high level analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent programming ability, including proficiency in Matlab
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong scientific writing skills in English, as evidenced by publications in internationally recognised, high ranking, peer-reviewed journals (relative to career opportunity)
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as a demonstrated high level of self-motivation and ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

Job/Position Description-

  • $73,597-$98,127K plus 9.5% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Fixed Term – 12 months
  • Full-time 35 hours per week

The Postdoctoral Fellow will undertake collaborative and self-directed research on an ARC funded Discovery Project titled “Determining features that separate groups of protein sequences”. This project aims to produce new mathematical methods for analysing viral genetic sequences and determining components within these sequences responsible for different outcomes.
