PhD Student in Chemistry: The European Institute for Molecular Imaging at the University of Münster is seeking a highly motivated PhD student for a project focused on the biology of guidance receptors in neuronal development and cancer. The position is part-time (25 hours/week, 65%) and is initially limited to 3 years, with the potential for extension. The successful candidate will join the group of Dr. Maria Florencia Sánchez and will be funded by an Emmy Noether DFG grant.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, (Bio)-Chemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, or (Bio)-Medicine.
  • Strong interest in nanotechnology and fluorescence microscopy methods.
  • Experience with lab work, preferably including cell culture, molecular biology, biochemistry, and confocal microscopy.
  • Broad experimental-analytical interest, contributing to the development and application of new methods to investigate plexin signaling in neuronal development and cancer.
  • Proficiency in English (required) and German (desired).
  • Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team.

Job Description:

  • Conduct research on how receptors sense the environment and generate selective responses, with a focus on plexins.
  • Employ nanotechnology, cell biology, and advanced microscopy to study membrane organization and clustering of plexins in signaling.
  • Engage in an experimental program that includes chemical biology, nanotechnology (photolithography, 3D printing), and cutting-edge imaging methods.
  • Enroll in the CiM-IMPRS graduate program, known for excellence in Molecular and Cellular Life Sciences.
  • Contribute to the development of new methods and their application in investigating the role of plexin signaling in neuronal development and cancer.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary teamwork and receive career development support through mentorship, scientific thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork.
