  • The applicant should be an Indian citizen.
  • The Candidate should have a Doctorate in Mechanical/Metallurgical Engineering with expertise in metal forming & powder metallurgical processes, Process-microstructure-property correlations, Numerical modelling of manufacturing processes and In situ process monitoring.
  • Those who have submitted their PhD/M.D/M.S thesis and are awaiting award of the degree are also eligible to apply. However, such candidates, if selected, will be offered lower fellowship amount till they qualify the eligible degree.
  • The incumbent must have good knowledge of materials and material characterisation techniques, and be able to brainstorm on light weighting of motor parts.
  • The candidate will be expected to perform Numerical Simulations for the design of metal injection moulding moulds and extrusion tools.
  • Ability to use CAD softwares like Fusion 360, and simulation softwares like ANSYS will be ESSENTIAL.
  • The Candidate should possess good knowledge of powder metallurgical processing of materials, especially mould design for metal injection moulding (MIM), forming processes like extrusion and design & manufacture of extrusion tools using simulations (using QFORM or similar software), mechanical behaviour of materials, and testing of materials.
  • Candidate must have at least 3 Publications (research papers) in reputed international Q1 Journals. The Candidate should be able to interface with electrical engineers who will participate in the design of a metal injection mould which will also incorporate a strong magnetic field to facilitate MIM in the presence of a strong magnetic field.

Job Profile:

Nature of work : Light weight design and construction of electric motors (Axial flux motors, PMSM, etc.) involving Design Metal Injection Moulding moulds, and the entire process for making magnets and soft magnetic cores for the rotor. Computer Simulation for design and manufacturing of extrusion tools to manufacture electric motor casings with features like cooling channels in place will be expected. Ability to use CAD softwares like Fusion 360, and simulation softwares like ANSYS will be ESSENTIAL. The Incumbent will have to get the tools fabricated as per the design made by him/her and conduct  trials using the equipment in the laboratory to demonstrate the technology. The job profile therefore has computational  as well as laboratory (practical) components including interaction with vendors like tool makers and equipment manufacturers.
