Postdoc position in Sweden, Chalmers University of Technology

Designation/Position- Postdoc position in Sweden

Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden invites application for Postdoc position in Sweden from eligible and interested candidates

About-  The Photonics laboratory at the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience, with about 35 members, is involved with research on optical communication systems, optical amplifiers, and optoelectronics. We have a state-of-the experimental facility for optical communication and excellent funding over the next several years. Our research is both experimental and numerical and we have extensive international collaboration. We also have access to a state-of-the-art clean room for fabrication of optical structures and devices as well as experience in commercializing our research.

In the area of communication we implement new modulation formats to achieve higher spectral efficiency in optical communication channels, thereby increasing capacity. Ultralow noise optical amplifiers are developed as they allow a further increase the transmission performance significantly. The more device-oriented research deals with lasers satisfying requirements for optical interconnects in terms of speed and power consumption.

Research/Job Area-  Photonics, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering or similar

Project Title- Phase-sensitive optical amplifiers and their applications

Location-  Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification–
Applicant should have a Ph.D. degree preferably in Photonics, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering or similar.

The degree should generally not be older than three years.

Strong experimental experience in any of the following areas is required; optical fiber communication, nonlinear optics, optoelectronics, and/or device design.

The responsibility will also include assisting PhD students in their work.

Excellent presentation skills, and fluency in English are required. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Experience from optical parametric amplifiers is a merit.

Job/Position Description-
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).

The persons filling these positions will participate in research as outlined above and will be conducting mainly experimental work supported by numerical simulations. The appointments offer an opportunity to qualify for further research positions within academia or industry.

This research project deals with phase-sensitive optical parametric amplifiers (PSA) that have unique and superior properties compared with all other optical amplifiers, most notably the potential of noiseless amplification, very broad optical bandwidth, and being an enabler of a range of ultrafast all-optical functionalities. While these amplifiers have great promise for use in optical transmission, there exist many other very exciting applications as well ranging from spectroscopy, sensing, to free-space communication. We recently were awarded a major grant to conduct research on these amplifiers during a ten-year period. Topics include:

• Compact and high-performance nonlinear platforms for PSAs and other applications.
• Devices enabled by PSAs including ultralow noise lasers and broadband amplifiers.
• New optical amplification approaches for spatial-division-multiplexed transmission systems.
• Few-photon nonlinear optics and quantum communications.

The objective is to unleash the unexplored potential of PSAs by generating knowledge and implementing experimental demonstrations that go substantially beyond current state-of-the-art. This involves a mix of engineering and scientific challenges with telecom and non-telecom applications in mind.

Research group is now seeking innovative self-motivated persons that will be able work independently as well as in larger teams. Fluency in English is a requirement. The persons filling these positions will participate in research on phase-sensitive parametric amplifiers and involves both experimental and numerical/theoretical work. The majority of your working time is devoted to your own research.

he positions as Post-doctoral fellows are full-time employments, limited to a maximum of two years. Applicant should have a PhD degree preferably in Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering or similar. Strong experimental experience in any of the following areas is required; optical fiber communication, nonlinear optics, optoelectronics, and/or device design. Your responsibility will also include assisting PhD students in their work.
