Postdoctoral Fellow – Artificial Intelligence: The Santa Fe Institute, a private, not-for-profit research and education facility, is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow to collaborate with Dr. Melanie Mitchell and other project participants in developing AI models of conceptual abstraction and analogy-making. This project aims to extend ideas from Mitchell & Hofstadter’s Copycat and related architectures to new domains, both idealized and real-world-inspired. The focus will be on examining mechanisms for compositionality in intelligent and adaptive systems.

- PhD in an area related to AI or Cognitive Science (by the start date)
- Eligible for J-1 visa sponsorship or a U.S. permanent resident
Job Description:
- Collaborate with Dr. Melanie Mitchell and project participants in developing AI models of conceptual abstraction and analogy-making
- Extend ideas from Copycat and related architectures to new domains
- Compare developed models with alternative approaches on the same tasks
- Contribute to the examination of mechanisms for compositionality in intelligent and adaptive systems
- Interact and collaborate with members of the larger SFI community
- Develop independent research projects
