About- EMBL Rome, EMBL EBI (Hinxton) and the Italian Institute of Technology wish to jointly offer a postdoctoral program that builds on the collaborative relationship of the institutes and furthers the understanding of molecular biology and disease and bioinformatics through world-class scientific research by generating new collaborative links between the EMBL and IIT. Eligibility/Qualification–

Projects may be selected from pre-defined areas or proposed by the applicant. In the case of self-defined projects, the area of work must have been agreed with both EMBL and the IIT based group leaders.

Job/Position Description- 

  • Researchers are supported by easy access to scientific expertise, well-equipped facilities, and an active seminar program.
  • Successful ETPOD postdocs will be awarded a 3-year fellowship to work on a joint project between a group at IIT and a group either at EMBL Rome or EMBL EBI.
  • Projects may be selected from pre-defined areas or proposed by the applicant. In the case of self-defined projects, the area of work must have been agreed with both EMBL and the IIT based group leaders.
  • The postdoctoral fellowships will be awarded in 2020, to start as soon as possible. Fellowships typically begin before the end of the year, but the start date may be delayed with the agreement of the group leaders.
  • All ETPOD fellowships must be undertaken within 12 months of the fellowship being awarded.

  • Project 3: “Computational and experimental approaches to uncover the integration of visual information and internal states in the mouse visual system” – Stefano Panzeri (IIT Trento), Hiroki Asari (EMBL Rome) & Santiago Rompani (EMBL Rome)
  • Project 4: “Large scale identification of the circRNA interactome in motor neuron homeostasis and in neurodegeneration” – Irene Bozzoni (CLNS@Sapienza Rome) & Alex Bateman (EMBL EBI)

Self-proposed projects

You may also choose to propose a project of your own design, in which case you should submit a full description (maximum: 1000 words) to the principal investigator(s) with whom you would like to work. It is strongly advised that you contact the laboratories beforehand to discuss and formulate a successful project. The description must be pre-approved by all principal investigators involved before submission.

The initial contract is for a period of 3 years with the possibility of a fixed-term extension.

Earliest start date: December 1, 2020. ETPOD must be undertaken within 12 months of the fellowship being awarded.

Contract Duration: 3 years

Selection process: Fellowships will be granted following scientific review and interview by an expert panel and will be based on an assessment of the potential for successful research of the candidate.
