Eligibility/Qualification–
(Essential qualifications vary by position. Common requirements include:)
- Bachelor’s (4-year B.Sc. as per NEP) or Master’s degree in Natural Sciences (Wildlife Science, Zoology, Ecology, Marine/Biology, Environmental Sciences, Geoinformatics, Life Sciences, Agricultural or Forestry Sciences) from a recognized university.
- Relevant research/industry experience ranging from 2 to 8 years for senior posts, or applicable doctoral degree and work experience.
- For specific posts: Experience in wildlife/ecology research, statistical analysis, spatial ecological modelling in R, management of GIS databases (ArcGIS/QGIS), and/or field coordination.
- For Principal and Project Scientists: Doctoral degree in relevant discipline plus experience.
- Additional Desirable Qualifications: Demonstrated research aptitude, project team management, scientific publications, environmental sampling/analysis, and strong communication skills.
Job/Position Description–
The Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, invites applications from Indian nationals for 53 contractual positions of research and project personnel under various research projects related to wildlife conservation and management. Positions are available across multiple projects focusing on biodiversity, ecology, genetics, GIS, wildlife monitoring, and habitat assessment.
Designations (Multiple)
Examples include:
- Project Associate – I & II (Ecology/Genetics/GIS/Database Manager)
- Technical Assistant (Ecology)
- Principal Project Associate (Genetics)
- Project Scientist – I Note: Designations vary by project (see project-specific details in original document).
Project and designation dependent, including:
- Implementation of project activities based on objectives.
- Team coordination across field sites and liaison with local administration.
- Collecting, managing, and analyzing data (including GIS/database management).
- Scientific research in related domains (ecology, genetics, environmental sciences).
- Report and manuscript writing.
- Support and lead activities as per management’s requirements on multi-disciplinary projects.
- For specific posts: Leading project teams, conducting population genetic analyses, environmental monitoring, and drafting management plans for impacted sites.
