TIGS (Tata Institute for Genetics and Society), Bengaluru, India invites applications for Project Research Scientist – I Positions at from eligible and interested candidates
About- TIGS is a program driven research institute with a focus on solving pressing societal challenges. We are seeking applications from enthusiastic candidate to join as Project Scientist & Project Technical Support in ICMR funded muti institutional extramural program titled “Centre for advanced research for neuromuscular genetic disorders: Clinical data-based disease modelling, molecular diagnostics, and mRNA based biotherapeutic technology platform”.
Research/Job Area- life sciences/biology/genomics/ molecular biology/ genetics/biotechnology/ biochemistry/statistics/clinical modelling or related areas
Location- TIGS (Tata Institute for Genetics and Society), Bengaluru, India
Eligibility/Qualification–
Minimum Essential Qualification
- First Class Post Graduate Degree, including the integrated PG degrees, with three years of experience or PhD in the field of life sciences/biology/genomics/ molecular biology/genetics/biotechnology/biochemistry/statistics/clinical modelling or related areas
- Second Class Post Graduate Degree, including the integrated PG degrees with PhD and three years of experience in the field of life sciences/biology/genomics/molecular biology/genetics/biotechnology/ biochemistry/statistics/clinical modelling or related areas
- For Engineering/ IT/ CS- First Class Graduate Degree of Four Years with three years of experience in the field of life sciences/biology/genomics/ molecular biology/ genetics/biotechnology/ biochemistry/statistics/clinical modelling or related areas
Desired Experience
Demonstrative capabilities in Molecular cloning/ CRISPR technology/ Gene editing technologies/ /Enzymology/Genomics/Nano-biotechnology/ RNA synthesis/ DNA & RNA characterization/SDS-PAGE & western blotting/ Protein purification/ Drug discovery/ Biomolecule characterization using chromatography & Analytical techniques like HPLC or Mass spectrometry/ or any related areas. Such work done in the research area of muscular dystrophies or lysosomal storage disorders or rare genetic disorders or gene editing would be given preference.
OR
Demonstrative capabilities in cell biology like handling immortalized mammalian cell lines/ Myoblast culture/ Myotube differentiation/ Human stem cells/ Primary cells especially of hepatic or muscular origin or dendritic cells/ Immune cells like monocytes/ patient derived iPSCs etc. Candidates with experience in using cell culture methods for research in the area of muscular dystrophies, lysosomal storage disorders, rare genetic disorders or gene editing using techniques like ELISA/SDS-PAG & western blotting/RNA-seq/Genomics/Proteomics/DNA &RNA transfection technologies/Immunohistochemistry/Immunofluoresce nce/RNA-FISH/karyotyping/ gene editing/ or any related techniques would be given preference.
OR
Demonstrative skills and capabilities in animal biology like animal handling/animal surgery/drug discovery/ PK & PD studies/drug metabolism/nano-biotechnology/organ collection, tissue lysis, SDS-PAGE & Western blotting/ Immunohistochemistry/ preclinical toxicity studies/ RNA-FISH/RNA isolation etc. Candidates with research work done on mice models of muscular dystrophies, lysosomal storage disorders, rare genetic disorders, or gene editing would be preferred.
OR
Proficiency with R package especially in areas-related to clinical modeling
OR
MBBS degree with enthusiasm or prior experience in natural history studies for rare genetic disorders
AND
- Proficiency in data organization, data interpretation, data visualization, data presentation
- Good communication, analytical and management skills
- The candidate is expected to co-ordinate the project related research activities with a network of collaborating laboratories and organize meetings.
- Prior experience of project management and coordination would be an added advantage
- Good organizational skills
- Enthusiastic and positive attitude towards societally relevant research

Total number of positions: 14 Project Research Scientist – I : 4 positions Project Technical Support – III : 10 positions
Duration: Contractual basis, annually extendable.
